weeks 322-324

This blog is turning into the Once a Month project, geez. Not sure why I haven’t been blogging weekly, but it probably has something to do with wanting to do other stuff than looking at a blank laptop screen. Haven’t done much writing either.

One weekend was spent crocheting a long red circular scarf, and finished it quicker than expected. Planned on taking photos wearing it along with various people with me, but didn’t get that far.

I’ve made progress on a few other things.

The orange vest needs the button placket done, and have put them on straights.

Using up all the purple yarns in my stash, and some grey to make a top. It’s top down, with the top crochet then the rest is knit.

I counted the stitches and it’s 312 for sleeves and main body.

Purple yarns, minus the grey yarn

Oh a few more rows of moss stitch (on an odd numbered row) on the blue pullover, so about three inches done. Two more inches before stockinette stitch.

Then there is this future scarf. It will include knitting and crochet. It’s stockinette until that yarn is over then switching colours, then repeat for the other side.

Oh, and I got fabric for a future suit. The outside will be a dark red, while the inside is a heavily pink coral taffeta. I have so many sewing projects that need to be finished ASAP but still want to start this as soon as possible. My goal is a gorgeous dress and this velvet suit; at least one by Valentine’s Day and most by my birthday in April. Still need to buy interfacing and lining for the dress.

I did a bit of baking over the past weekend and plan on making more next weekend. Just have to remember to buy more Molasses. Icing biscuits has become a bit easier. There is this baker who is local, that basically told me, don’t follow the directions on the Wilton container, but mix the confectioners sugar and meringue powder together then add the water and mix until stiff peaks, then add tiny bits more water, this isn’t including the gel colouring, according to whether it’s for outlining or flood icing.

week 171

Having a kid on vacation means you have less time to focus on other stuff.

Christmas was yesterday and I didn’t get any real baking done over the past week, which is unusual for me. I got it in my head to attempt to make lamingtons and did it the lazy way and made boxed cake which should have told me it wouldn’t work.

I made one before the cake pieces started disintegrating.

In turn, I just made biscuits with the leftover chocolate, coconut, a handful of walnuts, two handfuls of sliced almonds, two tablespoons of AP flour and an egg.

I’m usually very exact when it comes to baking but this one was just throwing together a few items and hoping it would turn out.

Did sneak in a few things.

I was waiting to turn this into a scarf and get more yarn but got impatient so while listening to Bat For Lashes’s curated evening on BBC6 radio on Christmas Eve, I turned it into a cowl.

bracelet

Before I turned to the cowl, this was done in a few minutes but I had to change one part where the bracelet connects and it ended up falling apart when I was fussing with it after I had the heart upside down. Only in claddaughs are upside down hearts proper otherwise they should be right side up.

I need a harder wire gauge because my original idea didn’t work so just strung these on flimsy wire. The original idea was to wire wrap crystals because, except one, they don’t have holes drilled in them.

I started this today.

yet another red and pink scarf

I am feeling very lazy of mind so a simple garter stitch scarf and not a lot of time spend on planning it out. A lot of projects take up planning and sketching but making simple things tide me over in-between.

This is actually my last post of 2016 and it’s weird to think this year is ending so soon.

I ended 2015 miserable over a breakup and somewhat hopeless, but a year later, I experienced another breakup a month ago after something extremely short termed, but feel okay and somewhat looking forward to what next year brings.

I have quite a few things in the planning stages that hopefully will come to fruition next year.

Hope everyone reading this is safe and in good spirits. And, getting drunk on New Year’s Eve is for amateurs. Kidding.

Continuation of this project. The bobbles are coming along nicely.

Had grated carrots and couldn’t decided between Southern biscuits and, well, biscuits/cookies.

Carrot cake bikkies won out, although I would have preferred they were crunchy instead of little puffy bits of goodness. So, I need to alter a few things.

I rarely write things down which is why rarity in posting recipes, but this is the jotted notes.

Three peeled and shredded carrots

Add to that 1/3 cup chopped pecans and add enough raisins to make 1/2 cup.

2 1/2 cups flour

+ 1/4 teaspoon of salt, baking powder, baking soda, nutmeg, and allspice +1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

1 stick butter, melted

1 cup sugar (3/4 raw sugar + 1/4 brown sugar)

1 egg

1/2 tablespoon vanilla extract

Drop by tablespoons apart two inches even though they don’t spread that much.
