week 347

The suit isn’t finished but turned a majority of the leftover fabric into an elastic waist skirt. Everything is still hanging in the closet. There is still a tiny bit of fabric left and unsure what to do with those scraps.

Just finished attaching the buttons to this example shirt. Haven’t tried it on so unsure if it fits.

I’ve gotten it into my head to make slippers. So far, only the cushion bits of the slipper are done.

Slipper cushions

I traced one foot onto some cardboard then cut out matching parts on stiff interfacing, then each side gets eight layers of knit fabric. The next plan is to encase it all in fabric then attach the top parts. Hopefully they turn out like my head has imagined.

It’s my mission to use up as much of my yarn stash by end of the year and recently got Yarntelier’s Shawls, Wraps and Scarves and was inspired to experiment and make a shawl using up a few yarns, and some clear beads.

one grey and two blue yarns

Lastly, the green laceweight mohair yarn I bought on sale on Knitpicks has finally been settled. Yes, I cut knots out so some are in small pieces but I want to make flowers from all of the yarn. It’s stashed with the embroidery thread.

weeks 344-346

I’ve mostly been focused on one huge project and wanted to be able to show it off in it’s entirety. Is the red velvet suit completed? Nope. Pants aren’t done then I want to top stitch everything, so everything lies flatter. I’m hoping to actually be finished by next week. Not bad considering it’s been almost two weeks since I sucked it up and cut out the velvet pieces on May 5th. I thought the velvet would be the hard part but tweaking the lining or having the lining ruffle while sewing them together is making it take longer.

The blazer part is pretty much finished. It needs a button or two, and a bit of a top stitch. It somewhat shows but didn’t iron every step, just the interfaced bits you don’t see. It fits perfectly although I had to keep tweaking the armholes because my shoulders insist on being wider than everything else on my body.

Red velvet blazer without closure

I bagged the lining and my handstitching needs work.

The pants need the waistband finished and the zipper side of the pants seam needs to be fix so the dip isn’t obvious. Also, the hems need to be fixed. I kind of want to do what was done on the sleeves, where I attached an extra interfaced part, so the lining wasn’t going ‘oh hey guys’ but unsure the length to make them. I don’t wear heels unless they’re in boot form, so will most likely make them just past my ankles. By the way, the pattern directions was to put on the interfaced side of the waistband, before attaching the zipper, and it’s way easier to put in the zipper before bothering with the waistband.

I finished using up the yarn my cousin bought me and it’s like a wee rug. My counting was all over the map and the top is much wider than the bottom.

I’ve been wanting another flower bouquet so started making them out of leftover lining fabric for the the suit. (Still have enough velvet and lining fabric to make a simple skirt.) Need wire in order to do the next step because they’re currently like this.

weeks 341-343

Time is just a construct by now, only marked by Dylan showering every night and remembering to shower every other day. Days are mostly filled online, struggling through emails, and an Autistic kid struggling with having his schedule messed up, while weekends are mostly online streaming concerts.

I’m trying to finish off as many sewing projects as possible. Also procrastinating on cutting the red velvet for the suit.

multicolour striped shirt

I told my dad he could go through one drawer of fabric to use for facemasks. In that drawer was this one and immediately wanted a tshirt. So I drafted a pattern for a super roomy shirt and this is the end result. Some bits aren’t sewn perfect but, nonetheless, am currently wearing it. Should have made the sleeves a bit longer as they’re around the elbows.

Lace and lined with velvet cape

It looks jacked up but it’s done and just wanted it done. Should have sewn it then turned it inside out.

Back of red and white apron

I didn’t take a picture but changed the pink apron and the straps cross in the back. This other apron still needs the snap closures.

Slight idea of what the floral shirt without buttons

I found the pieces of this shirt in one of the current projects bin and sewn up part of it. I need to pop in the buttonholes and attach some buttons then fix the hem and it’s finished. Not sure if I’m going to affix the bow since the buttons are to be worn at the back so probably will make the bow detachable so it could be worn on each side.

Oh the bit I’m crocheting.

Two yarn striped whatever this is

This is the progress on that project. The bottom row has bobbles but everything else is basic counting.

weeks 339-340

I’m slowly getting back into some sort of groove then it’s followed by a few days where I want to do absolutely nothing. It doesn’t help every weekend there are online concerts, which I absolutely love as music sustains me, but it has completely thrown off my sleep patterns and I’m constantly exhausted, as it’s based in an Australian timezone.

I’ve gotten a wee bit done.

Since buying fabric online, for a Christmas present to myself, it sat in a bin together. I have the lining of a blazer and pants finished.

blazer lining

It looks a bit squat but they both fit decently. Until all the main fabric pieces for the blazer are assembled, then I’ll know where to put the button/buttonhole or buttons/buttonholes in front. I haven’t cut into the velvet yet.

Pants lining

Without the waistband on the pants, it’s a bit below where I’d like it. Also, it zips on the side.

(I have no idea what sort of blouse or top to be worn with a velvet burgundy suit, once it’s finished, though.)

Oh I’m using this pattern and just not bothering with edits and making sure it fits perfectly, as I’m trying on stuff as I go and it seems fine. I’m doing A with pockets and E. I probably can do a skirt with the leftover fabrics of both the lining and main.

Day one, dark grey on white panel boards

Spent some time throwing some paint on panel boards. You get ideas and want to see if it’s something you actually want to pursue further or it’s just going to stay an idea. I’m glad I bought a lot of panel boards from Arteza because small doesn’t always translate to something to be done on a bigger scale.

Then with added colour

I intentionally made one dark so the strokes aren’t obvious unless you’re close by, and the other was trying to make a lighter pink but it turned out more vivid.

week 332

The hats are not great.

Top views of hats
Front views of hats

On the left, the hat doesn’t quite fit and I need to resew the inside so it does. The pillbox would be nicer if it wasn’t so stiff but probably needs to be handwashed then hung up to dry.

Progress on the painting. Guessing they’re leaves and thinking out the exact layout of the second layer over them. Decided on using salmon pink, or something more orangey, because I refuse to use red and make it Christmasy.

Painting with stencils taped over it

Made Valentine’s cards for Dylan’s classroom. I temporarily forgot the school policy that treats for the kids have to be storebought and was planning on making heart shaped choccy bikkies for them but just bought them Starbursts. For the adults, I made white chocolate topped milk chocolate fudge with hundreds and thousands sprinkled on top.

week 330

Making this dress has been such a pain to get it in the state where I’m completely happy with it. I’ve finally reached that point where the skirts need to be hemmed and it’s completely finished. It looks wider and compared a pullover shirt and it’s just the way it looks. Need to attach something so the dress doesn’t keep falling off the hanger.

Unhemmed lace dress

The cape that sat on a hanger in the closet is nearing completion, also. Need to finish sewing up the collar and put the bottom on it, then cut the ribbon apart.

Gold cape

Continued crocheting this wee thing. I have no idea what it will be so assuming it’s a shawl at this point. It’s too thick to be a scarf.

Orange and variegated striped shawl

Have no idea where this is going but experimenting with shades of green, using blue, yellow and light pink

Green swirls on green paint

I’m still getting more practice stretching canvas and the corners annoy me. Need to spray them with hot water. Would hot water affect the dyed one? Probably.

two stretched canvas

Oh and I finally opened the resin and made this, as an experiment. Used dried old flowers which will eventually lose all its purple and become yucky brown. I need to sand it all over but doubt it will become glass clear. I used the correct measurements but it was around 15C and wasn’t careful about the bubbles forming. Also I sprayed a leftover packaging for banana clips with the mold release spray twice and still destroyed it because I got excited and removed it an hour earlier than I should have.

Week 329

My focus has only been on getting the dress done. For a short bit, I was overthinking it and decided to do something different with the skirt, but decided to revert back to how it was originally, because the skirts would have made it hard to walk.

I’m finally at this stage. Attaching the top and bottom together. Finally.

Bottom inside while top is inside out

Nothing really else but last Friday I picked up a box from UPS. They decided to hold my package at a different place. Perhaps because last time was a pain in the ass.

But everything I bought with the giftcard, plus just over $2, was in the box. Bit of red felt, small bag of glitter, gold ribbon and stretcher bars. Two pairs of 16”, one 20” and 30”. I might not have measured the dyed fabric correctly so probably be 16×16, instead of the 20×30.
